Poetry Scavenger Hunt

As we begin sharing poetry with young people, we need to introduce them to what the library shelves can offer. One way of doing that is using a “scavenger hunt” kind of game to challenge them to take the books off the shelf and thumb through them. They can work in pairs or small groups to see who kind find the most items first. Perhaps they’ll want to share a new-found favorite poem, too.

The list begins:

  1. Find a book of rhyming poetry
  1. Find a collection of Mother Goose poetry or nursery rhymes
  1. Find a book containing non-rhyming poetry (free verse)
  1. Find a poem picture book (containing a single poem) or a novel in verse

For more details, get your copy of The Poetry Teacher’s Book of Lists.
And if you already have the book and would like to offer additions, corrections, or other input, please do so in the COMMENTS area. Thanks!
