Poetry Books about Poetry, Books, and Reading

Poets have looked inward at the topic of books and poetry itself from time to time. These poetry books lend themselves perfectly to lessons focused on the power of words and language or as the thematic center for a week-long exploration of poetry or simply to highlight for special occasions. Here is a sampling of books about poetry, books, and reading itself.

            The list begins:

Goldstein, Bobbye S. Ed. 1992. Inner Chimes: Poems on Poetry. Honesdale, PA: Boyds Mills.

Hopkins, Lee Bennett. 2011. I am the Book. New York: Holiday House.

Lewis, J. Patrick. 2009. Spot the Plot! A Riddle Book of Book Riddles. Ill. by Lynn Munsinger. San Francisco, CA: Chronicle.

Salas, Laura Purdie. 2011. BookSpeak!. Ill. by Josee Bisaillon. New York: Clarion.
